RAE - the results are out.... And we're still flying high!

Well, it's been an anxious wait while the results from the mammoth UK Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2008 have been decided. We are well pleased with the outcome, again showing that we are in the top 3 engineering universities in the UK, with Cambridge and Imperial. This is a huge achievement, given that the School of Engineering Sciences submitted all of its staff, rather than playing games to try and massage the outcome.
As second in the Aeronautical/Mechanical and Manufacturing 'medal table', we continue to grow our research activities. I'm particularly proud to be part of the new Airbus Noise Technology Centre, helping to make quieter airliners by developing cutting-edge technology, as well as co-Director of the Microsoft Institute for High Performance Computing.
